The PCGHS bought the old Carnegie Library in Nov. of 2006. A Carnegie library is a library built with money donated by Scottish businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 libraries were built between 1883 and 1929 not only in the United States but in the United Kingdom, Canada, and many other countries. The library in Montezuma was built in 1918 with an $8,000 grant from the Carnegie Library Commission. The city had to agree to buy the land to build on and vote a tax for the maintenance in the yearly amount of 1/10th the cost of the building.
